Learning Outcomes

Regime of Subject Knowledge: At the end of study, graduate of this programme should be able to:

(i) identify, analyse, and synthesise scholarly and professional literature relating to cyber security;

(ii) demonstrate critical understanding of the process of evidence gathering, preparation and delivery of testimony concerning computer-based crimes; and demonstrate critical understanding and ability to apply concepts, principles, theories and techniques of cyber security for the development and maintenance of secured information technology systems.

Competences and Skills:

(i) apply ethical principles required of computer professionals;

(ii) apply knowledge of computing, information technologies, and security tools to design effective solutions for specific cyber security problems;

(iii) develop appropriate skills and strategies to solving cyber security related problems;

(iv) plan and carry out a significant cyber security project in a real-life situation; and

(v) ability to establish a decision-making framework to effectively evaluate the costs and benefits of appropriate defensive strategies, based on the risk an organisation is facing.

(i) participate actively and effectively in cyber security project teams;

(ii) communicate ideas, problems and solutions to a range of audiences.;

(iii) demonstrate sensitivity to and informed judgment on ethical issues as they arise in information security and cyber defence;

(iv) work in a professional manner, recognising the legal, social, ethical and professional issues involved in the exploitation of computer technology; and

(v) commitment to latest research and techniques for protecting valuable assets.
